TRANSCRIPT: PENFOLD: "It all began as something of a joke. Michael Speed simply enjoyed taking long showers -- so long, in fact, his friends suggested he could set a world record. Tonight that record will be his. He began a week ago yesterday and is still considered in good condition. But the effort has taken its toll. His feet and hands are badly swollen and despite the use of 50 jars of vaseline his skin is still suffering. Nevertheless he's still determined to stick it out."
SPEED: "I reckon standing through the night -- from about two o'clock in the morning, till six in the morning -- that's been the hardest time, when normally the average person's asleep and, you know, sometimes its a bit lonely and depressing inside a cage."
PENFOLD: "At ten past seven tonight, Michael Speed will walk from the shower and head for home. But, before he can climb into bed, he'll have to clean the protective grease from his body and there's only one way to do that -- another shower. Robert Penfold, National Nine News."
