Background: Hundreds of workers in Glassport, Pennsylvania (eastern United States) dug into piles of debris today (5 August) after a freak storm.
Two persons were killed and seventy injured by the sudden, violent storm which tore through Glassport Saturday night (3 August) leaving a trail of smashed buildings.The two killed were in the three-story Petrosky Hotel, which was flattened by the wind.The roof of a roller skating rink collapsed; the factory and offices of the U.S.Glass Company were severely damaged, as were many other private homes and business buildings.Damage was estimated at over three-million dollars; almost every building int he city suffered.
The damage was done in just forty-five minutes, when winds of 90-miles an hour ripped through the city.The U.S.Weather Bureau flattening Glassport, the storm roared into neighbouring towns, doing considerable damage.
