Background: The housing of Iron Curtain refugees has been speeded up recently following many efforts of the Greek Welfare Ministry in cooperation with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees.

Thousands of homeless people who fled from Communist Paradise are being housed in various areas where they are given another chance to commence a new life in a free country and enjoy real Western democratic Laws and treatment.

One of these modern buildings for Rumanian refugees has been inaugurated in Jannina today by Foreign Minister Evangelos Averof and Dr. Beerman, representing U.N. High Commissioner. The building will house 25 refugee families, offering them modern facilities and comforts. The building's inauguration ceremony preceded a popular fiesta at Jannina's main Square where local folkloric dances were performed by Epirus girls.
