Background: Government leaders in Gabon and officials of OCAM (The Afro-Malagasy Common Organisation) attended a special ceremony in Libreville on Monday (November 2) to mark the inauguration of a new African Information Institute.

The Institute, which has so far cost one hundred million francs CFA was officially opened by Gabon's vice-President, M. Leon Mebiame.

The idea for the institute was first mooted at the January Conference of OCAM in Fort Lamy. When it's finished the institute will cost about 400 million frances CFA.

SYNOPSIS: A new African Information Institute was officially opened in Libreville, Gabon on Tuesday. The establishment of the institute has been sponsored by OCAM -- The Afro-Malagasy Common Organisation.

The opening ceremony was performed by the Vice-President of Gabon, M. Leon Mebiame. He was greeted by officials of OCAM including the organisation's Secretary-General, M. Kane, and the Director of the Institute.

The idea for the establishment of the institute was first mooted at the OCAM conference in Fort Lamy in January, this year.

So far the project has cost one hundred million france CFA and when the Institute is finally completed the cost will have risen to almost 400 million francs CFA. Students at the Institute will have the opportunity to make use of some of the most modern electronic equipment in the world during their studies.
