Background: Crown Prince Birendra of the Himalayan mountain kingdom of Nepal, received a special blessing on Tuesday (10 Feb.) on the Hindu festival of Ba Sant celebrating the onset of spring.
The ceremony took place in the Royal temple at Katmandu where preparations are underway for the 25 year old Prince's marriage later this month to Aisharya Rajyaluxmi Evi, the daughter of an army major general.
The courtyard of the temple was crowded with Nepalese army contingents, including the King's bodyguards, and other officials.
The Royal Brahmin chanted mantras in prayer and then applied the "tilak" blessing on the forehead of the Prince. Then he was escorted back to the palace by members of his mounted body guard.
