    Background: The President of the Zaire Republic, General Mobutu, extended a tour of the south-eastern portion of his country to call on President Micombero in neighbouring Burundi.

    The two presidents and their foreign ministers discussed questions of mutual interest during a brief meeting in the capital of Burundi Bujumbura.

    Earlier, in the Zaire Republic, President Mobutu called at an air force base at Kamina, and at Kalemie he reviewed naval staff who'll the job of patrolling the Zaire Coast of Lake Tanganyika.

    SYNOPSIS: A line-up of light aircraft at Kamina Air Bus in the Zaire Republic. Visiting the base - President Mobutu, who was greeted by senior officers. The visit was part of a tour by the president of the southeastern portion of his country, and as well as staff on the base a large crowd of people were there to greet him. After President Mobutu had inspected a guard of honour, military aircraft flaw overhead in tribute to him.

    The president talked briefly with officers at the base -- then mingled with the crowd, shaking hands - and pausing from time to time for a brief chat.

    On to Kalemie - one hour further mast - and another warm welcome for President Mobutu. There, he was taken to the Navy Base - on the shore of Lake Tanganyika. The Zaire Republic shares the shoreline of the Lake with three other African nations, Burundi, Tanzania and Zambia. At the base, President Mobutu boarded a patrol craft to meet man recently appointed to patrol duties along the Zaire Coast of Lake Tanganyika.

    The President's journey was extended to cross the frontier into neighbouring Burundi - where he was greeted by President Micombero. The visit provided an opportunity for the two presidents, and their foreign ministers to were and discuses a variety of questions of concern to both countries. The meeting took place in the capital of Burundi, Bujumbura - and despite their brevity the talks were considered useful by both leaders.

    After the talks - a further round of handshakes for President Mobutu before he continued his tour with a visit to the lake-front at Bujumbura.
