Background: Because of a shortage of lions in South Africa, the managing director of a zoo park in Capetown is considering buying some breeding stock from a safari park at Windsor, in England.

Lions were introduced to several such parks throughout Britain a few years ago, and they've adapted so well to their new environment that there are now about six hundred in the country.

Some of the lions born here were hand-reared or fed by alsatian dogs, but a park spokesman says they're still wild, and will be able to hunt for their prey if they go to South Africa.

A three-month-old lion is worth about 250 pounds (675 US dollars), and a larger animal for breeding could be worth 400 pounds (90 US dollars).
