Background: Flames from a burning petrol storage tank leapt 120 feet (37 metres) into the air in the Port of Amsterdam in Holland today (Thursday).
The fire, in a tank belonging to a subsidiary of a West German company, was still blazing 12 hours after it had started.
The blaze, which could be seen from the City of Amsterdam, threatened 60 other tanks in the area and firefighters called on fireboats as well as land based equipment.
at least one man was injured in the blaze which was still raging late into the night.
The cause of the fire, which followed an explosion, was not known.
