Background: At the Philippine Congress Hall in Manila, November 25, the International Conference of Asian Historians was opened by President of the Philippines, Carlos P. Garcia.
President Garcia in his inaugural speech urged the historians to create a storehouse of historical knowledge on Asia including research material gathered from all parts of the world.
Twenty five foreign delegates from Australia, Burma, Formosa, Hongkong, Indonesia, South Korea, Japan, Macau, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand and United States attended the four day conference along with 118 Filipino historians:
Before leaving the historians to their discussions the President met most of the delegates personally.
