Background: Stopping off in Rome for a two day visit while on his way to Iran, Polish Foreign Minister, Mr. Rapacki has had talks with Prime Minister and interim Foreign Minister, Signor Aldo Moro. He also called on President Saragat.
In a communique issued after the official talks, they said simply that they had "discussed international problems of mutual interest". But in a speech after the luncheon, Mr. Rapacki told Italy's Premier that although there were differences between the countries, "there are also possibilities of dialogue in an international situation which still presents dangers, but also encouraging elements". He declared that Poland is very interested in building a system of security which could lessen the divisions of Europe and the world. He spoke of his satisfaction at the economic and cultural relations between the two countries.
Mr. Rapacki was replying to a toast by Signor Moro, which spoke of the feelings of "friendship and sympathy which Italy nourishes for the noble Polish nation".
Mr. Rapacki leaves Rome for Teheran tomorrow (Monday).
