SV & CU Shah of Iran speaking in English to reporter.(5 SHOTS)

SHAH: "I believe that what the government has decided to do will help start to restore order. The fundamental of democracy is for the people to abide by the laws and in the meantime laws will be prepared for the complete freedom of the press, laws for the freedom of demonstration, now it can be done and at the same time respect law and order. And hopefully then the next elections will be free. If the government has not reached a decision who knows what will have happened."

MOUNCK: "Does the contempt stem from the economic situation just now and the differing living conditions between the rich and the poor in this country?"

SHAH: "Yes, to some extent. But you see the difference between rich and poor exists everywhere. Take all these European countries, take all the developed countries of the world, you don't have equality between all, this is not possible. Taxes are levied against real income, all lower income people are relieved from taxes so a kind of balance is set. What the main population of the people will have at least will have a minimum standard of living which will permit him to live decently."

REPORTER: "Now there has also been a lot of talk about corruption?"

SHAH: "Yes, surely like everywhere. Maybe a little more here than some place and maybe a little bit less than some places but this will be fought to."
