Background: For years the people of Zaire have had to rely on shipments of frozen meat from Chad.
But after an agreement signed in Kampala on Thursday (17 August), they will now be able to buy fresh beef flown in from Uganda.
The agreement was reached between the state-owned Uganda Development Corporation and the Society General d'Alimentation, the biggest food importer in Zaire.
In return for selling meat to Zaire, Uganda plans to import palm oil, hides and some manufactured goods from its near neighbour.
