Background: The first signs of autumn are in the air in Paris autumn fashions. On Monday (21 July ) the fashion house of Nina Ricci previewed some of its lines for the coming winter.
The designs exhibited showed a clear emphasis on slim lines with heavy use of natural materials such as camel hair, mohair, alpaca and wool.
The ensembles are frequently form-fitting and often feature tartan, dogtooth and striped designs. Last year's billowing tent dresses have definitely made their exit, but the lowered hemline remains in vogue.
Subdued shades of copper and beige are common.
For many fashion houses the outlook for the coming season is a bleak one. The recent opening of the autumn showings in rome was accompanied by industry figures which suggest the fashion industry is going through a difficult time. One Italian fashion writer explained that "millions of women have learned not to consider a dress as a status symbol any longer"
