Background: THE BEN BARKA TRIAL ENDED IN PARIS YESTERDAY (MONDAY) WITH THE ACQUITTAL OF THE DEPUTY CHIEF ON MOROCCAN SECURITY, COLONEL AHMED DLIMI. THE JURY DECIDED THAT COL. DLIMI WAS NOT INVOLVED IN THE KIDNAPPING, IN OCTOBER, 1965, OF BEN BARKA, A MOROCCAN OPPOSITION LEADER, WHO WAS HUSTLED INTO A CAR IN PARIS AND HAS NOT BEEN SEEN SINCE.

FOUR OTHER PEOPLE WERE ACQUITTED WITH COL. DLIMI, AMONG THEM M. LEROY-FINVILLE AND M. PHILIPPE BERNIER, A FRENCH JOURNALIST. THEY LEFT THE COURT AFTER THE HEARING, AND COL. DLIMI WAS RELEASED FROM A PRISON IN THE CENTRE OF PARIS.

IMMEDIATELY AFTER THE ACQUITTALS, A SPECIAL COURT SENTENCED MOROCCO'S INTERIOR MINISTER, GENERAL MOHAMMED OUFKIR, TO LIFE IMPRISONMENT AFTER FINDING HIM GUILTY, IN HIS ABSENCE, OF COMPLICITY IN THE KIDNAPPING.
