  • Description

TRANSCRIPT: MOROZOV: "OVER THOSE YEARS THAT I'VE BEEN FOLLOWING THE UNITED NATIONS, AND IF MY MEMORY SERVES ME RIGHT THIS IS THE VERY FIRST CASE, THE FIRST INSTANCE, WHERE WE HAVE DISPLAYED IN FRONT OF OUR EYES WEAPONS, I DON'T KNOW, THEY MAY BE LOADED OR UNLOADED AND WHICH ARE ACTUALLY AIMED AT THE MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL SITTING AROUND THIS TABLE. THEY'RE NOT AIMED AT ME SO I'M NOT TOO WORRIED BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW MY COLLEAGUES ON MY RIGHT FEEL BECAUSE I THANK THAT THE WEAPONS AIM DIRECTLY AT THEM. I SHOULD LIKE THEREFORE TO REQUEST THE REPRESENTATIVE OF MALAYSIA, AT LEAST AS LONG AS THE SECURITY COUNCIL DOESN'T DECIDE OTHERWISE, TO HAVE THESE WEAPONS REMOVED FROM THE TABLE. HE'S DONE THIS WITHOUT ANY KIND OF AUTHORITY. REMOVE ALL THESE WEAPONS."

DATO ISMAIL: DISTINGUISHED MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL, I CAN ASSURE YOU MR. PRESIDENT THAT THESE WEAPONS ARE UNLOADED."(LAUGHTER)

Background: IN A DRAMATIC BID TO BACK HER CHARGE OF INDONESIA AGGRESSION, MALAYSIA PRODUCED ARMS AND MILITARY EQUIPMENT BEARING INDONESIAN MARKINGS IN THE SECURITY COUNCIL CHAMBER YESTERDAY (WEDNESDAY).

DATO ISMAIL BIN DATO ABDUL RAHMAN, MALAYSIAN MINISTER OF HOME AFFAIRS AND JUSTICE, SAID THE EQUIPMENT, INCLUDING DANISH AND GERMAN MANUFACTURED WEAPONS, A PARACHUTE, AND A PARATROOPER'S RECORD BOOK, WAS CAPTURED AFTER INFILTRATORS LANDED IN SOUTH MALAYA RECENTLY.

AIDES PULLED THE MATERIAL OUT OF SACKS AND LAID IT ON THE COUNCIL TABLE FLANKING DATO ISMAIL AS HE LISTED THE ITEMS.

DATO ISMAIL DID NOT SEEK THE COUNCIL'S AUTHORITY TO EXHIBIT THE ITEMS AND HIS STATEMENT WAS INTERRUPTED SHARPLY BY THE RUSSIAN PRESIDENT OF THE COUNCIL, MR. PLATON D. MOROZOV.....

DATO ISMAIL SAID THE "STORM BROKE" ON AUGUST 17TH WITH CAREFULLY PLANNED LANDINGS OF A LARGE PARTY OF HEAVILY ARMED INFILTRATORS. THIS WAS A CALCULATED INDONESIAN AGGRESSION. INDONESIA, HE SAID, HAD NOW MOVED TO "BLATANT AGGRESSION BY DROPPING THREE PLATOONS OF HEAVILY ARMED PARATROOPERS IN A REMOTE AREA OF SOUTHERN MALAYA."
THE INDONESIAN DELEGATE ANSWERED THE CHARGES BY TELLING THE SECURITY COUNCIL THAT MALAYSIA HAD SENT MORE THAN 30 TRAINED SABOTEURS TO INDONESIA'S RIAU ISLANDS SOME TIME AGO. HE SAID IT WAS NOT TRUE THAT INDONESIA WAS UNWILLING TO SEEK A PEACEFUL SOLUTION OF ITS DISPUTE WITH MALAYSIA, OR THAT SHE HAD COMMITTED AGGRESSION.
