Background: The 14th Annual International Motor Rally of Morocco finished on Saturday (1 May) in Casablanca. First across the line in the 4,200 kilometres (2, 604 miles) race was the Moroccan team of Deschazeau and Plassard, driving a Masserati-Citroen. 69 participants form seven nations took part in the rally. Among the 13 entered factory teams, Citroen and Simca placed the most cars in the rally--a total of 12 each.

The victory of Deschazeau and Plassard was especially gratifying for them. Last year the same team was forced out of the rally by mechanical troubles, after having led for most of the way.

SYNOPSIS: The winning team in the Fourteenth International Motor Rally of Morocco was Deschazeau and Plassard driving a Masserati-Citroen. The team reached the finishing point in Casablanca on Saturday, having completed the rigorous four-thousand two-hundred kilometre rally that started in Rabat. The victory was especially gratifying for Descahzeau and Plassard. Last year mechanical difficulties forced them out of the rally, after having been in the lead for most of the way.

A large crowd was on hand to greet the cars and drivers as they crossed the finish line. Second place went to the team of Chasseuil and Baron in a Peugeot. Sixty-nine cars entered the race, with teams coming from seven countries:- France, Morocco, Algeria, Italy, Andorra, Ivory Coast, and Sweden.

Thirteen factory teams entered cars under the twelve different classifications in the rally. Both Citroen and Simca had the most cars entered - twelve each. Other cars finishing in the top ten included Porsche and Volvo. The Rally itself was divided into three sections. Starting at Rabat, the first major distance ended at Marrakesh, then on to Ouarzazate - finally finishing at Casablanca. The Moroccan rally is one of the eight major annual rallies held each year. Some of the other included the Monte Carlo, Great Britain, and the recently completed East African Safari. Major motor car manufacturers spend large sums of money on thee cars, but only a first place finish will reward their investment with a possible return of increased sales.
