Background: Sheikh Ahmed Bin Hamid, Minister of Information of the United Arab Emirates, began a five-day visit to Jordan last week (19 December). The Sheikh told newsmen at Amman airport that he was carrying a verbal message from the Ruler of the Emirates to King Hussein of Jordan. There was no disclosure of the nature of the message from Sheikh Zaid Bin Sultan Al-Nihyan.
Sheikh Hamid said that he hoped his visit and talks with jordanian officials would strengthen relations between Jordan and the United Arab Emirates. The Emirates are seven states in the Persian Gulf. Sheikh Hamid said he hoped the talks would also lead to an agreement on the exchange of information between Jordan and the Emirates.
During the visit, Sheikh Hamid had talks with the Jordanian Prime Minister, Mr. Ahmed Al-Lawzy, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Abdullah Salah and the Minister of Tourism, Ghaleb Barakat.
