Background: The King Malaysia visited Singapore earlier this week (Sunday, Monday) where his country maintains a naval base. Sailors of the Royal Malaysian Navy were drawn up on the parade ground for the presentation of new colours. The King, wearing Admiral's uniform, was accompanied by the Chief of the Malaysian Naval Staff. Officers of the Australian, New Zealand and Singapore armed forces were also present. After taking the salute at a final march past, the Malaysian King, left the naval base aboard the frigate Range Tush. On the voyage back to Malaysia he reviewed the fleet off the Johore coast. The ceremonial steam past of some 20 ships, lead b a frigate, included four new fast strike craft delivered only last week from France. These craft have a speed of over 40 knots and carry missiles with a range of some 20 miles. They join the high-speed fleet maintained by Malaysia to combat piracy and smuggling.
