The building is a striking example of modern architecture and contains the world's largest mural. The largest in the series, and perhaps the most well-known, is entitled 'March of Humanity' representing the struggle of man over misery.

President Echeverria arrived with the mural's painter, David Siqueiros, for the inauguration ceremony. Siqueiros took five years to complete the work, and initial costs have been estimated at six million dollars.

The Polyforum is part of a new hotel which will eventually cost some 80 million dollars. The 51-storey building will also contain shops, cultural arts centres and ???
Among the many guests assembled for the inauguration word Government officials, Mexican artists and architects as well as international film star. Anthony Quinn.

President Echeversia addressed the crowd before performing the official ceremony. According to close friends, he hopes to continue painting and has already outlined another series of ideas for murals.
