Background: English fashion designer Hardy Amies presented his autumn/winter collection for 1977 in London on Monday (18 July) and the emphasis was on a return to the more feminine and soft designs.
SYNOPSIS: The day clothes feature english tweeds in muted shades of greys and earth colours. This suit in Barleycorn tweed is a typical example.
Evening dresses float and move in the finest silk chiffons. This year they'll be printed and ribboned, with touches of gold and fine pleats.
Lengths of the evening dresses vary from id-calf to ankle length and the dresses emphasise the particularly feminine shoes available in London at present.
Many of the dresses were of fine wool....like this one Amies calls 'boulevard'.
The more sporting women were also catered for...suits are neat, but comfortable to wear.
