    GENTELE: "Gentele, Goran Gentele."



    REPORTER: "What policies did you bring into the Swedish Opera House?"



    GENTELE: "Yes, I would say like this: that I think is that opera is theatre performance and that the theatre point of view must be as important as a musical part."



    REPORTER: "Mr Gentele, why would you leave the comparative peace and quiet of Sweden for this strike-torn city?"



    GENTELE: "I like fighting. I like to, it was the same thing when I started the Royal Opera in Stockholm, they say why do you take this thing, and I think it is a challenge and I don't like to have a life in peace, I want to... I think it's a way to live, to struggle."

    Background: A Swede, Mr Goran Gentele, had of the Royal Swedish Opera, has been chosen to succeed Mr Rudolph Bing as general manager of New York's Metropolitan Opera.

    Yesterday (Thursday, December the 10th) Mr Gentele talks to reporters.

    Mr Gentele, who is 53, has been in opera and theatre for more than 20 years. He became head of the Royal Swedish Opera seven years ago. He will take over the post in New York on July the 1st 1972. Mr Bing, who is 68, has been general manager of the Metropolitan Opera for 20 years.
