Background: World Junior Welterweight Boxing Champion Colombian Antonio Cervantes - nicknamed Kid Pambele -- beat Filipino challenger pedro Adigue by a technical knock-out after four rounds in Maracay, Venezuela, on Saturday (8 June).
The tall black Pambale completely dominated the fight. Adigue was rarely able to get through Pambele's long lead and he looked a frightened man by the end of the first round. Referee Isiro Rodrigues had to call in doctors to look at Adigue's cut eye after only two rounds.
The doctors allowed Adigue to continue but Pambele -- who was increasingly adding left hooks and straight rights to his accurate left jab -- too often kept Adigue on the ropes.
By the fourth round, Pambele had reduced Adigue's face to a puffy, bloody mess. And, when a straight right stunned Adigue and left him barely able to defend himself, Mr. Rodrigues stepped in and stopped the fight.
The win was Pambele's 24th knock-out in 63 fights and must leave him in a confident frame of mind for his seventh title defence against Victor "Million" Ortiz in Cartagena, Colombia, next month.
