(SEQ. THREE) CLARK: "I haven't been able to think deeply about the whys and wherefores, we've literally been living from moment to moment. What I can say is that the Iranians were successful in saving life and a lot of others. I've had nothing but humanity and compassion from them and, as I say, I've not yet had time to step back from it all and analyse it, to think any deeper into it."
(SEQ. FOUR) SPEAKES: "The fact of the matter is that two passengers were murdered by the hijackers, more were tortured and many brutalised for extended periods of time without any effective measures being taken by the government of Iran."

Background: FRANKFURT, WEST GERMANY, KUWAIT, UNITED ARAB EMIRATES, WASHINGTON DC, U.S.A.

Two businessmen, who were among the hostages aboard the hijacked Kuwaiti jet, arrived in Frankfurt on December 12. The men still bore the scars of the injuries received at the hands of the hijackers during the six-day drama. Their ordeal ended on December 9 when Iranian security forces disguised as airport technicians stormed the aircraft at Tehran Airport capturing the four hijackers. John Costa and Charles Kaper arrived in Frankfurt on a US Air Force plane and were taken to a military hospital where they were said to be in a stable condition. The previous day, Costa and Kaper had been flown from Iran to Kuwait with fourteen other hostages and the British pilot, Captain Harry Clark. Clark had told reporters that he had not yet thought deeply about the drama but was very thankful to the Iranians who saved his life. In Washington DC, White House spokesman Larry Speakes said that while many of the passengers had been successfully rescued, the Iranians had failed to take any action before two of the hostages were killed.
