Background: The Air Force's 49th Tactical Fighter Wing--four squadrons of F-4 Phantom II fighter-bombers, air and ground crews and support equipment--has been deployed from Holloman Air Force Base, New Mexico for duty in Southeast Asia. This is another in a series of quick-reaction deployments of Air Force units to Southeast Asia in response to the invasion of the South by North Vietnamese forced.

This film depicts air and ground crews preparing for departure from Holloman, including pre-departure personnel processing, immunization, maintenance, support equipment loading, mission planning and briefing activities. Air crew departure and taxi and take-offs of the 49th TFW aircraft on 8 and 9 May 1972, are also shown. The wing's commander, Brigadier General Jack Bellamy, Donovan, illinois, is shown climbing into his F-4 Phantom.

The 49th Tactical Fighter Wing is part of the Air Force's Tactical Air Command.
