Background: A Swiss 'Pilatus Porter' aircraft, accompanying the Swiss Himalaya expedition hoping to climb Dhaulagiri, the world's highest unscaled mountain, beat the world record for high altitude landing, Mar 28.

Pilot Ernst Saxer set his single-engine, six-seater plane - named 'Yeti' (Abominable Snowmen) - on the mountainside at 16,000 feet, easily beating the previous 13,500 feet high-level landing. Since then he had carried over two tons of baggage to the camp at 16,000 feet, saving many porters long hours of gruelling toil.

Now Herr Saxer hops to go still higher; a glacier at 18,000 feet on Dhaulagiri's North-East col looks a possible landing-strip, and 'Yeti' will make an attempt on it.
