Kuwait went into the match knowing that a win would ensure them of a place in the finals for the first time ever. In front of a home crowd they dominated the early stages of the game. Even if they'd been beaten, Kuwait could still have qualified, though they'd have had to win their remaining match against New Zealand on December the 14th.
Saudi Arabia, attacking here, have yet to win a game in the Asia-Oceania group.
Kuwait's first goal came after 36 minutes, and was scored by Faisal Al Dakheel. For Saudi Arabia, it was the 10th goal they've conceded in five qualifying games.
Here's the Kuwaiti goal again, this time in slow motion.
The second half. And Kuwait went further ahead after 56 minutes. With the Saudi defenders making mistakes under pressure from Kuwaiti strikers it wasn't long before the second goal was scored.
Again, the Kuwaiti striker Faisal Al Dakheel was on hand to finish the move off. It was his second goal of the game, and the one that sealed his side's place in the World Cup Finals; a reason for celebration as well. After five games, and with one left, Kuwait head the group table with eight points.
