    Background: Delegates to the annual conference of the French Gynaecology Society held at Abidjan in the Ivory Coast, visited a small village north of the capital last week (20 December) during one of the conference's more relaxed periods.

    About ninety delegates visited the village of Anyama, about 15 miles (25 kms) from Abidjan. They were greeted by villagers, headed by Chief Federic Akey. The gynaecologists saw traditional dances and picnicked in the open air at Anyama. One of the delegates, M. Gholam Mossa degh, an Iranian member of the Society, was created "Chief of the Generations" by the villagers (an honourary title) The villagers belong to the Attie, an ethnic group living in the south of the Ivory Coast.

    The gynaecologists' conference lasted about one week. The French Society alternates its annual sessions between France and foreign countries.

    SYNOPSIS: Delegates to a French medical conference being held at Abidjan on the Ivory Coast visited a small village near the capital during one of the more relaxed sessions last week. The delegates, members of the French Gynaecology Society, were greeted by the villagers, led by Chief Federic Akey.

    The gynaecologists saw traditional dances at the village, performed to traditional music.

    The village of Anyama is about 15 miles from Abidjan, capital of the Ivory Coast. The French Society holds its annual sessions in France on alternate years. In other years, the conferences are held in foreign countries. At the village, the delegates enjoyed a picnic in the open-air.

    An Iranian member of the Society was given an honourary title by the villagers of Anyama. Mr Gholam Mossadegh was created Chief of the Generations of the Attie, and ethnic group living in the south of the Ivory Coast.
