Background: A giant new factory ship -- floating base for an entire fleet of fishing vessels -- is currently nearing completion in Leningrad.
The new ship, the Posyet, is on the same scale as the 43,000 ton Vostok, which was claimed to be the largest factory ship afloat when launched two years ago.
Once she has completed sea trials this summer, the Posyet will be able to service 30 trawlers, processing over 750 tons of fish daily to produce fishmeal for farming.
SYNOPSIS: In Leningrad, work is currently nearing completion on one of the world's largest fishing vessels -- the factory ship Posyet. She's been built on the same scale as the forty-three - thousand ton Vostock, thought to be the largest fishery vessel afloat when she was launched tow years ago. When complete the Posyet will be able to service thirty trawlers and stay at sea for four months at a time. Up to seven-hundred and fifty tone of fish a day will be processed as fishmeal for farming. Facilities for the crew include a full medical unit, a library and a cinema. Sea trials are due to start this summer.
