    Background: President Jomo Kenyatta was sworn-in -- along with his Ministers and Assistant Ministers -- before thousands of Kenyans at an outdoor ceremony in Nairobi in Tuesday (5 November).

    During his address, President Kenyatta said his country welcomed foreigners who want to live there but he warned that the Kenyan people must be respected in their own country.

    The new Vice-President Daniel Arep Moi wa also sworn-in, as was Kenya's first woman Cabinet Minister, Dr. Julia Ojiambo. She is Assistant Minister of Housing and Social Services.

    The next day (6 November) President Kenyatta prorogued the new Parliament only hours after opening its first session. He gave no indication of when sittings would resume.
