Background: Mass visits of charity and distribution of gifts, by the delegates to the patients of various Bombay hospitals, formed part of the programme for the third day of the 38th International Eucharistic Congress.

The J.J. Group of hospitals, which will be visited by Pope Paul during his four day stay in India, was one of the hospitals on the delegates list. This hospital is one of the largest in the East and has bed strength of about 1300.

The visitors were taken in special buses to the hospitals and were admitted into the wards in batches of fives and tens. They then distributed small gift packets to the poor patients and offered them words of solace and sympathy.
