    SPEECH (TRANSCRIPT)

KYPRIANOU: (SEQ. 3): "The meeting was held in an extremely friendly atmosphere. I can describe it as being very constructive, and I am grateful to President Mitterrand for his understanding of the problems of Cyprus and for his sympathetic attitude and what I wanted to add is that we have agreed to continue to be in touch and to discuss further the issue we have started discussing today, together with other issues, with a view to strengthening the close, already existing close, relations and co-operation between France and Cyprus."

REPORTER: "Mr. President, did you discuss the question of demilitarisation of the island?"

KYPRIANOU: "All aspects of the Cyprus problem were discussed: the inter-commercial dialogue deals with the internal aspects of the Cyprus problem, and the international conference would deal with the external aspects of the Cyprus problem. But the aim and the solution of the Cyprus problem conforms with the resolutions of the United Nations, in conformity with the Helsinki final Act, and in conformity with the high-level agreements. Thank you."
