Background: Hundreds of wildly enthusiastic wellwishers, shouting "Good luck, Liz", milled around film star Elizabeth Taylor as she was wheeled to a car by her husband, Eddie Fisher, outside the London Clinic, Mar. 27. Policemen tried desperately to clear a path for her through the jostling crowd.
Pale but smiling, wearing a mink coat and carrying a poay of flowers, Miss taylor left the Clinic nearly two weeks after being rushed there for an emergency operation for acute pneumonia. She was still weak and under doctor's orders not to move any more than absolutely necessary.
After being carefully transferred from a wheelchair into the waiting car, Miss Taylor - with her husband and her personal physician - was driven straight to London Airport, where she was equally carefully taken aboard a Boeing 707 jet airliner. She was to spend the night in New York before flying on to California.
