Background: Tel Aviv - the city which has adopted Israel's Armoured Corps as its own - celebrated Armoured Corps day last night. And today (Monday) similar celebrations were held in Jerusalem.
The mayor of Tel Aviv, Mr. M. Namir, and the Commander in Chief of the Armoured Corps, General Israel Tal, addressed the crowds. General Tal is well known for his exploits in the 1956 and June, 1967 wars against the Egyptians.
After a short ceremony atop an amphibious Egyptian tank captured during the June fighting, the lights went on over the display of Israeli armour surrounding tanks captured from Egypt, Syria and Jordan. Most of them were of Russian origin.
Today, a similar display was set up opposite Herzl Hill in Jerusalem.
