Background: New York's Flat Racing season opened at the rebuilt Aqueduct race track, March 21. It was a working day, but thousands were present and were expected to spend an average of 20 dollars a head on bets.
A special feature of the Aqueduct track is the lay-out - in the centre is the betting indicator board, flanked on one side by a decorative pool, and encircling it is the inner hurdle-jumping track and the outer flat-racing track. Extending in huge arc round the main entrance is the vast car parking lot.
