Background: Visnews cameras visited Columbia Prison Camp, the army-transit camp outside Havana, Cuba, where hundreds of Batista's defeated followers are awaiting trial before Fidel Castro's Revolutionary Tribunals. Many of them can expect to face the execution squad.
On Jan 15 Castro threatened the United States after American Congressmen said that the State Department should act to stop the executions.
Cuba's new strong-man is reported as saying "If the United States sends Marines to Cuba, 200,000 'Gringos' will die". (Gringo is the sneering Latin-American term for Britons and North Americans). "We are more democratic than Eisenhower; more democratic than Foster Dulles. In Cuba there is more liberty than in the United States."
More than 3,000 former Batista men are awaiting trial, and by Jan 16 at least 200 followers of the ex-dictator had been executed.
