The first part of the game was scoreless, with Ghans leading the attack. Ghana's first goal came in the 30th minute, scored by Mame Acquah. Acquah also scored the winning goal in the 55th minute, taking Ghana shead of the Senegalese who had surged back into close of play to score two goals. The second leg of the Africa Cup preliminaries will be played in Dakar.
SYNOPSIS: From he opening minutes of Saturday's Africa Cup elimination football match between Ghana and Senegal, Ghana pressed the attack. Play was fast in the midfield as the Senegal team, playing form right to left, tried to stave off the Ghanaian forwards. The game, played in Accra's sports stadium, was the first leg of the Africa Cup eliminators. The capacity crowd had to wait until almost half-time before Ghana's Mama Acquah kicked home the first goal of the game. Ghana pressed the attack in the second half. The Senegal team took its opportunities, however,and scored twice, though often their attacks on the Ghana goal proved fruitless. Ghana came back within minutes after being awarded a penalty. Ghana's Akwetteh Armah kicked home his team's second goal from the penalty spot. With the score level going into the closing minutes of the match, the play picked up, but both teams were repeatedly frustrated in front of goal. At stake for the winner was a place in the Africa Cup Semi-finals. The next leg of the elimination matches is to be played in Dakar. Finally, with three minutes to play, Ghana's Acquah pushed the host team ahead three to two with his second goal.
