Background: Scotland best England in the Calcutta Cup rugby match at Murrayfield on Saturday (March 18), leaving England for the first time in history without a single international win the their credit.

Scotland won by four penalty goals, a dropped goal and two tries to England's three penalty goals, in a match which showed Scotland excelling in every department of the game. England matched Scotland only in the set ???rums.

The final score: Scotland 23, england 9.

SYNOPSIS: Beautiful weather at Murrayfield in Scotland on Saturday, when Scottish team captain Peter Brown kicked off against England in what was to prove a historic rugby match. First score went to the home side after Scotland put in, and England twice won-then lost--the ball. It was the first of two Scottish tries. Neither was converted.

England came back after a very shaky start with this big, high penalty kick by stand-off half Alan Old... It was the first of three successful English penalty goals...

But Scotland, always threatening, get a second try from this line-out. The scorer: captain Peter Brown, the scored 13 of his team's total.

The final points of the match--kicked by Peter Brown--followed a penalty against England for off-side. It made the score 23 to Scotland 9 to England; the fourth consecutive Scottish win against England, and the first time over that England finished a season without a single international win.
