Background: Paris Fashion designer Pierre Balmain, who unveils his spring and summer collection this week, has once again given Visnews a special preview of some of his outstanding creations. Cameraman Pierre Rihouet visited the house of Balmain at the weekend, where the designer himself introduced and described a representative selection from his showing. His English commentary is transcribed overleaf. Though the film is mostly shot in continuous takes, it has been divided into sequences in the usual Visnews style.
SYNOPSIS: Paris fashion designer Pierre Balmain introduces creations from his Spring Collection.
In Paris, it is already springtime. It is with pleasure that I will make you discover the new silhouette that we propose for the spring of 1972. This long tunic is made of heavy crepe, printed in stripes made in brown, navy and green. It is very elongated and it is worn with a scarf of the same material and a big hat.
For the casual hours of the morning, this ensemble is made of reversible material in navy and white, with horizontal stripes again, and the dress is made of the same material with white jersey. It's worn with a beret.
This suit is now made in silk and wool printed in stripes and the skirt is pleated without pressing. It has a long jacket and the hips are again moulded in the dress.
For the spring, we have preferred mostly white furs. Mink has been selected for this long cardigan, worked with reversed skins. It is worn with a pyjama of white crepe, of which the tunic is as long as the cardigan.
White also.....is used also for this long evening cardigan, pencil-line, completely straight right down to the floor and worn with a navy-blue dress, also very straight.
We have been playing again with black and white with these two lace dresses for the evening. Ultra-feminine, they are very romantic, very narrow and long, and have a very generous decolletage, both at front and back.
