Background: Sir Anthony Eden, former Tory Prime Minister of Britain, comments (S-O-F) on the present talks in Geneva on Berlin.
Sir Anthony gave this interview on his 62nd birthday on his return from a 12-day yachting cruise off France, June 12.
During his career, Sir Anthony was often engaged in negotiations in Geneva. Week six of the Geneva meetings begins June 15 with the talks in private.
The talks soured this week with Mr. Gromyko's declaration that the Soviet Union insisted on an end to the Berlin Occupation. But on the brink of deadlock June 12 he gave an assurance that his plan was neither a threat nor an ultimatum. However he insisted that the holding of a Summit conference should in no way depend on the outcome of the present Geneva talks.
