TRANSCRIPT: (SEQ 3):"This is the foundation of our entire team. This is where the kids of tomorrow are coming from. And these are the group of kids to be cut off if it happens. The average age of the kids here are right about -- the girls are right about sixteen to eighteen years old. The men are right about eighteen to nineteen years of age. And these are the races that will be our future teams for '76 and '80. And, right now, it's very crucial -- it's crucial every -- that we have sensible programmes; sensibly funded programmes. You don't built a team overnight. You don't have funding one year and not the next. You've got to continue on through, year after year.

Background: A lack of funds could cause the United States ski team to be cut back for next year's winter Olympics at Innsbruck, in Austria.
The coaches say that the team, at full strength could be the country's best ever. But a shortage of money -- for which the sport mostly relies on public subscription -- will probably lead to some members being dropped in the next few weeks.
And the younger team members, who compete on the Pan Am circuit around America and Canada while their seniors race in Europe, would be the ones sacrificed.
