Background: The ashes of the three Soyuz-11 cosmonauts, who tragically died at the end of man's longest space flight, received a hero's funeral in Moscow today(Friday). After an overnight cremation, the ashes of the three were carried on gun carriages through the crowded, silent streets of the city.
Outside the Kremlin, the ashes were transferred to a bier carried by Government leader. After a funeral oration praising their contribution to space exploration, the ashes of the three cosmonauts were placed in their final resting place -- niches in the hallowed Kremlin Wall. A statement on the cause of the cosmonaut's deaths only came after the funeral. They died from clots in the circulation caused by a drop in the pressure of the spacecraft.
Our black-and-white coverage from Moscow is again telerecorded through the Intervision circuit.
