Background: INTRODUCTION: In Paris, some leading couturiers are revealing their rich and elegant collections for the spring afternoons and summer evenings of 1981. Inventive designer Ted Lapidus had a variety of styles on show at his salon on Thursday (22 January) -- but there was no sign of the hemline creeping upwards as predicted by the fashion forecasters.
SYNOPSIS: A striking, multi-coloured dress in silk crepe de chine. An afternoon dress with three tiers of pleats in the skirt -- something to turn most people's heads in the spring sunshine. A soft and willowy look with a classic appeal.
This evening dress is in crinkled white silk. It's slightly loose at the waist and ornamented with paste studs at the neck and waist. But its most outstanding feature is the strong 1920s design, a style which seems as popular as ever...
A silk two-piece ensemble in purple, reflects a new mood for the 1980s. The tunic is embroidered in the colour of old gold at the wrists and hem, and is embroidered with pearls on the neckline. Tight straight trousers add to the dramatic effect.
Another two-piece suit features a jacket striped in black and old gold colours worn over a petal-shaped shirt. This is in black organza with clusters of black pearls...These are creations that the well-dressed international women at least will be wearing this year -- fashions which are both delicate and femine.
