Background: Martina Navratilova of Czechoslovakia had an easy 6-4,6-3 win over Greer Stevens of South Africa in Friday's (27 June) third round of Wimbledon's women's singles.

The match was never in doubt as Miss Navratilova showed the form that has made her the sensation and revelation on the tennis circuits this year.

She showed the strength that had allowed her to beat every senior player on the European and U.S. circuits this year -- a great weight of shot, a raking left-handed serve, fine forehand and forehand volley.

Although Miss Navratilova has beater all her main rivals in Europe and the U.S., she has not yet shown the determination and staying power to win a major tournament. She lost both the Italian and French Finals to Chris Evert.
