Background: Baggy dresses, a return to the 1930's, the disappearance of trousers - such are the predictions for the 1974 fashion scene.

The French fashion houses have spent the last few weeks in frantic preparation for the annual showing of their spring and summer collections. On Monday (21st January) the Jean Patou collection was unveiled for the fashion conscious public. The collection was largely the work of designer ???ngelo Tarlazzi, and reflected few of the more extreme predictions.

Skirt lengths dropped to an inch below the knee for the daytime. Tailored suits in primary colours predominated, and linen was a popular fabric. For evening, organdi and craps de chine were draped into long romantic dresses, atudded with sequins or belted with velvet.

SYNOPSIS: The collection, largely the worked of designer Angelo Tarlazzi, reflected few of the more extreme predictions for the spring and summer. A forecast of more baggy clothes was quashed by Patou's white linen jacket and black skirt.
