In "Christina", anchored near Princes Island, with Sir Winston were Lady Churchill, Mr. & Mrs. Onassis, Opera singer Maria Callas and her husband Signor Menenghini.
The yacht was soon surrounded by many boasts, crowded with newspaperman, photographers and ordinary sightseers, all eager to get a glimpse of the great Statesman.
Seated on deck, Sir Winston greeted one and all with his customary "V" salute.
Important visitors to the ship to meet Sir Winston were the Turkish Prime Minister, Mr. Menderes, the Turkish minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Zorlu, and their wives who stayed to lunch on board, as did the British Ambassador, Sir Bernard Burrows with his wife.
Later in the day, with the yacht moored in front of the Dolmabahce Palace, Sir Winston, with his fellow guests came ashore to visit the city itself.
In the evening the yacht weighed anchor and left for Greek waters.
