Background: Prince Norodom Sihanouk, deposed head of state of Cambodia, now the khmer Republic, arrived in Bucharest, Rumania, on June 19 for a four-day visit as a guest of President Nicolas Ceasescu. This film is from Rumanian Television.
SYNOPSIS: An official welcome in Bucharest, capital of Rumania, on Monday, for Cambodian Prince Norodom Sihanouk and his wife, Princess Monique.
The visit - lasting four days - was made at the invitation of the Rumanian President, Mr. Nicolas Ceausescu, who was at Bucharest airport to meet his royal visitors.
Prince Sihanouk is on a tour which also takes him to Yugoslavia, Mauritania and Albania. It is his first official visit to Europe since going into exile in China in March nineteen-seventy, after his overthrow in Cambodian, now known as the Khmer Republic.
The welcome was a warm one.
Soon after his arrival, Prince Norodom Sihanouk held talks with President Ceausescu and other officials of the Rumanian leadership. They and what was described as a comprehensive exchange of views on international problems. And one of the major topics of discussion was the war in Indo-China.
At an official luncheon Mr. Ceausescu said the visit was an expression of the friendship and solidarity which linked the Rumanian and Cambodian peoples in their struggle for a better life, social progress and world peace. Prince Sihanouk said he was particularly honoured to be invited and expressed thanks for the solidarity which he said Rumania had shown for hid people.
