Background: INTRODUCTION: A landmine attack on members of Lebanon's Christian militia on Friday (13 November) has threatened the fragile ceasefire in the country.Major Sa'ad Haddad, leader of the Israel-backed Christian forces in the south of Lebanon, said he no longer believes in the ceasefire after the bomb blast that killed three of his men.He also blamed the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) for allegedly allowing the build up of tension in the area.

SYNOPSIS: The Christian village of Rashaf in southern Lebanon is controlled by Major Haddad's men.It is part of an enclave near the Israeli border where an American negotiated ceasefire has been in operation since July.

The women of Rashaf mourned the militiamen whose bodies were laid out prior to burial.The Christians say the Palestinians were responsible.Until the ceasefire, fighting between Christians and Palestinians had threatened an escalation of the sectarian war.As the people of Rashaf mourn these latest deaths the future of the fragile ceasefire looks uncertain as Christian leader Major Haddad explained.
