Background: The U.S. Navy's swing wing fighter F-lllB #5 arrived at the Naval Air Test Center in Patuxent River, Maryland, on January 27, for land-based tests preparatory to carrier tests later this spring. It departed Edwards Air Force Base, California, and flew non-stop, unrefueled to Patuxent River, a distance of 2,354 miles.

The tests at Patuxent River will involve catapulted take-offs and arrested landings, utilizing equipment similar to that found in aircraft carriers. After successful completion of these land-based rests, the aircraft will be tested in the spring aboard an aircraft carrier of the KITTY HAWK class.

This film shows the F-lllB #5 undergoing recent flight tests at the General Dynamics Corporation test facility at Fort Worth, Texas.
