Background: Polo, called "the Sport of Kings," is played in Jordan under the patronage of King Hussein, who is chairman of the Royal Jordanian Polo Club. On Monday (July 24) the Jordanian team played the famous French Polo de Pagatalle team, which was formed in 1800.
The Jordanian team, which was formed in 1935, included two Jordanian Army generals. Among the French team were two counts.
The match was witnessed by King Hussein and Queen Alia, members of the diplomatic corps in jordan, and many government officials and army officers.
The French team won three goals to two in a ten-minute overtime period. The jordanian team is considered one of the world's great teams and had recently beaten a British Army team from Cyprus five goals to one.
