Background: The Jet Provost is the standard basic training aircraft of the Royal Air Force. It is powered by a Bristol Siddeley Viper turbojet engine with a thrust of 2,500 lb. and has a maximum speed of Mach 0.73. Instructor and pupil sit side-by-side. The jet Provost has distance-measuring equipment and bearing facilities, and was the first R.A.F. trainer to carry UHF radio. The new Jet Provost T. Mk. 5 has a pressurised cockpit.
